온에어 On Air
There is this one show I wish to recommend. It has been a long long long time since I've got so interested in a Kdrama. The last was...My Girl? Or was it Goong? In any case, this drama which I am quite in love with is titled
オンエアー 온에어 On Air
And here are the four leads. Yes, for once, a kdrama has FOUR LEADS and not two leads + two supporting leads whose roles seem to be just for wrecking the two leads' relationship and sometimes, viewers' hearts. The leads are: From left,
- Kim Ha Neul as Oh Seung Ah (SA), a very popular actress (though YE & KJ kept stressing that she is just a star, not an actress because her acting is not recognised as anywhere near good) with a bad/diva-ish temper which continues throughout the show, although moments of kindness and weakness from SA makes her more tolerable as time passes. This is much more refreshing than the typical character which is either really nice or which is very bad at first, then later, turns to be very loveable because of either a lecture by someone or a hidden sad past which wins viewers over to understand why she is so mean.
- Park Yong Ha as Lee Kyung Min (KM), a director with SBC (a madeup tv station), who is made the first director for the first time (previously he had been the assistant director and co-director). He is very determined and live by principles, not hesitating to point out things he disagreed with even if this means going against authority or people he cared about.
- Lee Bum Soo as Jang Ki Joon (KJ), an artist manager, whose company was saved by SA when she signed a contract with him at the time where his company was about to fold. He has been friends with YE since 5 years back and his actions at the first half of the show seemed to indicate that he still holds some feelings for her (he had admitted that he used to like her).
- Song Yoon Ah as Seo Young Eun (YE), a scriptwriter who had churned out 4 hit dramas achieving extremely high viewership ratings. Although a divorcee with one child, she retained some childishness in her as seen by her frequent and random tantrums as well as her tendency to get hurt emotionally by small matters or remarks.

The storyline revolves around this mini drama called 'Ticket to the Moon'. After being critisised by KM for writing swallow scripts about revenge, non-existant Cinderella stories and mysterious birth background, YE embarked on writing a script with depth - Ticket to the Moon. The drama shows how the drama is created - coming up with a proposed storyline, casting, gathering crew staff, sourcing for filming locations, rushing to complete an episode's script, filming, editing, adding bg music, delivering the tape for airing, and many sudden problems that can jeopardise the filming schedule. On the way, relationships are created, strengthened, evolved.
Why watch it?
I really recommend this because:
- The plot is very different from typical soapy kdramas. It is not draggy but yet not too fast-paced like Jdoramas. It explores an area which we are very interested in but yet have limited access to info on. Of course, not everything is true and not everything is included in the show, but it does gives us a good glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of a drama-making process.
- The relationship development is good and leaves room for imagination. Throughout the first half of the drama, I was really confused as to who will end up with who, or whether it will be just like other kdramas where two guys will fall for the same girl and the second girl will wait in vain for one of the guys, or something like that. The little acts of affection and concern by all four people here and there made it hard to guess how they will end up. So, if you intend to watch this, don't read spoilers, don't go read the next post I'm posting up. Enjoy guessing!
- There are many cameos in this drama. Cameos ranged from 5 seconds to a good few minutes. FT Island was inside too haha! They sang the theme song to the drama.
- Good acting. Really good acting. You have to watch it to understand.
- Funny interactions between the two female leads! They were always bickering with each other and there was this scene where they (together with the two male leads and other people) were at a chinese restaurant. You know, round tables in chinese restaurants usually have this round, rotatable part at the center so that everyone can pick any dish on the table. The two female leads were spinning the thing all around so that each will not be able to pick their food. That scene was pretty cute and the two male leads, seated between them, had this "Not again" helpless look. Quite funny!

I'm going to post a really long and picture-filled post later so erm, gomen neighbours!! And if you don't want spoilers, don't read my next few posts!!!!! Btw, does anyone have this song called Mirotic by 東方神起/TVXQ? I've never listened to their songs before but I tried out their latest album at HMV yesterday and almost ended up buying it! If you have it, please send it to me onegai!!! Or I may really end up buying it. =/
