I bring to you the translation of Leehom's latest controversial song: Plagarism, which I will never ever believe of Leehom, and the use of Lady Gaga in his lyrics. Read it, listen to the song, and tell me how you feel about it.

Please do not repost the lyrics without permission.

Open Fire

Defeating imperialism
Unwilling to become someone's slave again
My homeland is being invaded

You say Lady Gaga
I say why fear her?
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh~
Don't kowtow to them

Culture is a weapon
Buried within each strand of your nerves
Woken up by the drum beats of Utheatre1

Failure is not an option
We don't have to wait for success
Because Music-Man has arrived

The entire world suddenly starts to shake
The beats, the music have invaded our blood
The strategy for this is to open fire2
Open fire, open fire

Open (fire)

so many accusations
of an Asian invasion
here they come a point’n fingers at me
preyin’on a mass emotion
stirrin’up a big commotion
trying to assign responsibilities

gonna stop this negativity
turn it into positivity with integrity
giving all of me
for all to see
this fight for equality
but even if they blame us
try to frame us but nobody can shame us

The entire world suddenly starts to shake
The beats, the music has invaded our blood
The strategy for this is to open fire2
Open fire, open fire

 開

Open (fire)

1 Utheatre (優人神鼓) is a Taiwanese drumming group, established in 1988. Its performances revolves around Zen practice and self-cultivation, to infuse drum beats into one's moment of peace and serenity.
2 The title's official translation is 'Open Fire', hence I translated it this way. However, "火力全開" as used in the verse can also mean "Go full thrust", not holding back.

My own thoughts

Defeating imperialism
Unwilling to become anyone's slave
My homeland is being invaded

Invaded by? Western music? Are we all slaves worshipping at the feet of Western influences? But if we close ourselves to the outside, are we just taking part in blind nationalism? Or are we obliged to protect the culture we inheirted from our ancestors?

You say Lady Gaga
I say why fear her?

To be honest, and to be at risk of being flamed, I actively avoid all things Gaga. I don't get her, I don't get her music, and I don't get her fame.

Culture is a weapon
Buried within each strand of your nerves
Woken up by the drum beats of Utheatre

I so love this verse because of the imagery. There is a saying that Chinese are descendants of the Dragon. This verse painted a picture of a sleeping dragon inside each and every one of us, waiting to be waken so it can soar again. And to be woken up, an ancient rhythm is essential. An ancient rhythm from our 5,000 years of history.

The entire world suddenly starts to shake
The beats, the music have invaded our blood
The strategy for this is to open fire
Open fire, open fire

The world starts to shake? Because of the war between Western music and Eastern music? Hopefully this is not what Leehom meant. Perhaps he meant it in a more personal way, that because we've been awaken, we're going to impact the world with our culture. The beats and music have invaded our blood. The foreign music has invaded our blood, so we need to fight it? Or is it actually Leehom's music which has invaded our blood and is calling for our support?

so many accusations
of an Asian invasion

All  can think of is kpop taking over the world. =D

Wow, when I first listened to this song, I thought it was Lee Hom's challenge against Lady Gaga. Although I am not a fan of Lee Hom, but I do love a few of his songs.

I think some of Lady Gaga's songs are catchy, but emm, she's just... I don't know what to say.

Lol, yes, I agree with you. There is too much of Kpop around. XD
