Innocent Love
Feb. 4th, 2010 08:53 pmI was just listening to YUZU's album in my car when Innocent Love (イノセント・ラヴ) came to mind.
Then I realised how biased I am.
In case you didn't know, I absolutely loved this dorama and it was because of this, not Nobuta Wo Produce or HanaKimi, that I grew to like Horikita Maki. But on closer inspection, this dorama has many elements that are found in a typical Korean melodrama:
- Main female meets main male during a time where main male's one true love is not by his side.
Kanon (Maki) met Junya (Yujin) during the time Kiyoka was in a vegetable state. - When something just started to develop between main female and main male, the main male's one true love returns.
Junya was telling Kanon how he has grown to be unable to live without her when Kiyoka regained consciousness. - Memory loss
After being crushed onto by Kiyoka (who was attempting suicide), Junya lost all memories shared with Kanon.
I can't really remember any other such similarities, but even with the above, I feel that I'm quite biased. Usually when I see these elements in a kdrama, I'd be totally disinterested, putting it in the category of overused plots/melodramas. And even if I decide to watch it, I'll be rolling my eyes as I watched the typical plot unfold. But I didn't for Innocent Love. Is it because of pure bias or because of how Innocent Love was filmed? The quick pace, soothing OST, beautiful camera shoots...Somehow I think Jdorama's style of melodramas are very beautiful. As for kdramas, they tend to exaggerate. *shrugs*
