Before I start, this is an appeal to all those whom I had agreed to help get concert goods. I kinda lost track of who and what I'd promise, so please please please pm me with your email, order list and payment details (if you had paid). I can remember these few: 'M" from Peru (my JGS/Hongki buddy), 'A' from Singapore (I had helped you with 5x10 too ne), My Arashi family from Singapore. Anyone else???

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really like the variety in 果てない空.

果てない空 - your regular Arashi pop A-side song, catchy!
STORY - sounds like a toned down version of their album songs, more experimental yet retaining the Arashi touch
maboroshi - B-side-ppoi
あの日のメリークリスマス - Arashi style cheerful ballad, sounds like a good closure to a year. The back vocals adds on to the Christmasy feel. I can totally imagine it being placed in a shopping mall during Christmas shopping haha!

And I really like the PV!

This is probably one of my favourite (no-member-face) scenes in the PV. Love the splashing of the water when Aiba (this is crazy! We can recognise the member by just his leg/shoe/Aiba-take!) steps that shiny high ankle sneaker on the water!

While waiting for Natsuniji ep 10 to download, I started on Arashi ni Shiyagare (25/10/2010 ep). And I discovered this:

While the table was being pushed onto the stage, it got stuck a little.

This jerked the table, causing one of the baseball stands to topple over.

But soon, we see someone reaching out for the toppled stand and the baseball.

I didn't have to guess who the hands belong to, because I had, right at the start of the episode, noticed the interesting prints on his jacket.

There. The baseball stand is back upright.

Nino, our meticulous Nino.
Nino, our down-to-earth Nino.
You who give such witty remarks on tv and on paper.
You who made me feel so touched on the recent SCP.

I love you!

I'll continue watching the episode another day. My eyes are shutting!

[EDIT]
Finally finished Natsuniji. It was a nice ending, and I especially liked the part where Taiga had his stage greetings. When he raised from his bow, he saw his father at the back of the hall. My eyes got watery at that moment....because, more than a love story, the drama was about a son proving himself, working towards his childhood dream, and exploring the potential his father saw in him. It was too late, because his father had passed on...but...surely, somehow, his hard work would have made his father proud.

Short post before I drop dead on bed.

Seriously, MGIAG is probably one of my favourite (light) dramas in recent years (because Slingshot will remain as my favourite heavy plot drama).

The flow is even, so there's none of the usual kdrama drag in later episodes. The chemistry builds up over time. The acting of the leads, especially the male lead (and I'm not being biased, really) is convincing and reaches into your heart. The plot is interesting due to the mystical element that makes things unpredictable, even the ending. Under a few overlapping main arches such as "will one of them die at the end of 100 days" and "will she survive in the end", the story generates new questions after answers are given, and that makes each episode worth looking forward to. It is a good mix of light-hearted scenes and heavy angsty ones, so while you squeal your heart out at cutesy scenes (mainly rabu rabu scenes between the leads), you feel your feet firmly planted on earth by the life-and-death storyline.

And even the final episode was paced well, with no drag. From 1/3 into the episode, I was crying, all the way to the last 5 minutes. This is spite of me knowing (darn the spoilers) the happy ending. Because the leads do not know that there'll be a happy ending, they behave in ways that break your heart. And I cried for the second lead, not because he didn't get the girl (it was never about him loving the girl anyway), but because he was so filled with regrets of a mistake he did a thousand years ago.

You can read the recap of the final ep here at dramabeans. If you have not watched this wonderful drama, go give it a try. Unlike You're Beautiful (which I love), this is one which is going to be on my list of "dramas to rewatch soon".

Night.

I was distracted from the whole MiniSuite Talk by the very obvious Ohmiya bullying on the left side of the screen.
Nino pushing Ohno into the background by leaving no gap between himself and Aiba.
And the look Ohno gave Nino when Nino finally let him into the line.

Watched the PV Making Of finally, and I totally loved it. Even more than Troublemaker and Monster!

Here are some flail-worthy moments:

  • Aiba falling off the track.
  • Nino fooling around with Ohno's clipboard.
  • Ohno spending his free time looking up fishing info so that he can fish up his beloved tuna.
  • Sho and Nino trying to take over Jun's job of introducing the PV by pretending that the song's the theme of their drama instead!
  • Aiba worrying about finishing the job too smoothly this time and having his (clumsy?) character ruined, thus having to take on the "able-to-do-too-much-kun" character in the future.
  • Sho acting as Ohno's manager, telling him the concept of the PV.
  • Nino asking Ohno to wait since he hasn't finished his part, and having heard that, Ohno asks him to work hard. Why the sudden change in behaviour? We soon find out. Ohno says that although Nino's last, most likely they'll go back in the same vehicle. Nino acknowledges that he knows that! Everything ends when he finishes his part. At that, Ohno rushes to push Nino out of the greenroom! And they have great fun pushing and pulling, because Nino knows what Ohno's thinking and refuses to bulge! It was only when Ohno said he'll wait that Nino moves. Maybe Ohno wants to go home fast and pack his bags for another fishing trip!
  • Ohno joking that since they're filming the whole thing with the green backdrop, he can't imagine what the final product would be - it could have all kinds of trees behind them, or it may just be a plain green backdrop. HAHA since when did Ohno become so lame.
  • Sho putting up 7 fingers (in the Japanese way) at every mention of "7 coloured"/"nana iro" in the lyrics, and then Ohno taking over the baton (in Sho's words!) by singing "phrase"/"no furesu". Kawaii.

Notice I didn't mention a thing about Jun? Well, there was plenty of member love (Yama, Ohmiya, Sakumiya, how come no Aibaxsomeone ?!) but the best best best (and I'm biased haha) was this:

I don't know, I can imagine Jun as the wife going "what happened? what happened?" to the husband (Ohno) who came home in low spirits. But I can also imagien Jun as the husband returning home and finding the wife (Ohno) resting after a long day of housework! Jun understood Ohno so much, wondering if he was lazing around coz he was hungry/tired....The ease!

Who would have expected Jun to gesture to Ohno at this part?!

風の通る坂道 木漏れ日の階段に
想い出を刻んで 全て君にする
The hilly road where the wind blows past, the stairs where the sun filters through the canopy onto
I'll carve memories there, making them all about you

And Ohno returned a kiss, so instantaneously!

Having said all these, I need to say that I prefer Over over Love Rainbow. I like the boys' more mellow voices in there, and the calm melody.

karened: (Default)
I've finally watched the Love Rainbow PV.

I think they've progressed from half-CG (To Be Free) to full CG here. Imagine them doing nothing but walking and sitting and standing around on green mats. But I'm glad there's no dancing, because in my mind I imagined up a performance with them just sitting on bar chairs (?) singing like that, earnestly. Of course, going by the JE standards of what entertainment should be, such a simple performance won't appear.

I'm happy with the many Juntoshi frames in this PV. I'm happy that they all look so beautiful.

But that's all.

I'm not happy about how tired they look.

Especially Nino. Look at the eyebags!

I'm watching tonight's Arashi ni Shiyagare, though just Jun's part with Angelina Jolie...when I got super excited.

The last time I got so excited was during the Mannequin 5 SP on HnA #88, where Arashi visited Gotemba Outlet Mall, a place where I had visited just a few months before...

And now, this.

I was rewatching AnShi #8 because I remembered pettomomo's blog post about Arashi's facial expressions when Jun did the banana slip. I wanted to see them myself...and indeed, they looked so worried. In fact, before Arashi's turn, when Jun commented that it seemed really painful when the guest did a demo, Nino gave an odd laugh. I don't know if it's just me being affected by Arashi's facial expressions after that, but I felt that he wasn't really laughing from inside. More of like...pretending to laugh to ease the tension around/within.

And then, before Jun's turn, while he was saying his 'last words', neither Aiba nor Sho was smiling. After the slip, only Aiba smiled a bit, and it's the kind of...worried/cynical half-smile/smirk. No one else had facial expressions that reflect the laughter in the audience. In fact, I thought that Ohmiya looked pretty worried. It was only when Jun started laughing himself that I saw Ohno and Aiba laugh a bit.

In fact, the next scene showed Nino at the other side of where he was initially standing, together with Jun. Maybe he was trying to check that he fellow young-one is alright?

I digress, because my purpose of posting is actually the below. The one small moment of Juntoshi. XP

To relieve my poor body and soul from the ravage of AB311, dearest Johnny-san brought me great news today!

Arashi/ARASHI Anniversary Tour 5 X 10  DVD
5524 yen S$87.16 Release Date:2010/04/07
Description:DVD release from Arashi featuring footage from their "ARASHI Anniversary Tour 5 x 10" concert performance at Kokuritsu Kasumigaoka Kyogijo on August 29, 2009. Includes their all singles from "ARASHI" to "Everything" and more. Also contains digest footage from August 30, 2009 performance at the same place and footage from five major domes tour.

Released in just over a month's time! So fast! About a month after the release of the new single ne. Are they trying to ride on the new high set last week at the Japan Gold Disc? Eh wait. EHHHHHHHH. Angel had told me that the concert included is the 28th one at Kokuritsu....demo...the information above says 29th ne. EHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if to be happy about that because:

  • I attended the 29th one, so having the dvd of that special experience will be a great memory.
  • I attended the 29th one, so having the dvd of the 28th instead means that I got to watch 2 concerts! Besides, 28th is also a special day, and it'll be like Arashi performing in celebration of my 21st!

In any case, at least there's a digest section! I hope a backstage one too. I'm greedy, so I'm thinking that they should have 3 discs, with the 3rd disc being a backstage dvd.

And I've finally found time to watch the Troublemaker PV (gonna watch the Making Of later~). I like the cute concept, although I'm not so sure what the entire PV means. Maybe it's just pure fun. XD

I haven't downloaded an Arashi perf in a long while, mainly because most downloads require me to join the community, which I dislike (me and my odd peeves). But I downloaded this one because it promised the most awkward moment in the history of Arashi, aka the translucent costumes debut. XP I really wonder what eventually happened to the fashion coordinator who worked on this project.

It was so fun watching both fresh-from-the-Junior-ranks-Arashi (my gosh...chibi JUN and his voice!! And awkward members) and now-10-years-old-Arashi (haha they looked embarrassed amused by how they looked/behaved/spoke back then). Well, history does come back to haunt you!

Aniwaes, I disgressed. My main purpose is to share this screencap from Music station 13 Nov 2009

I love his eyebrows!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lol....Forgive me, Jun, but Sho's brows look really good!! Especially when he does that faint frown! This performance is like one of the better ones I've seen for My Girl...although I've only seen 2. XP But yeah, all 5 looked happy and good, Jun looks relaxed, Nino openly flirted with Ohno, and Aiba's just plain cute. Of course, Sho's brows. =)

The brightest star in episode 14...

Who do you think was the brightest star in episode 14?

For me, it was him...

who shone in spite of the sorrowful darkness that filled those few minutes,
who took over from Shin Woo to be this episode's star,
who beat even Tae Kyung's sweet (though unoriginal) kiss.

Let's recap those heartwrenching moments...

ExpandImage heavy! )

karened: (Default)

Who cares about the teeny weeny possibility that Mi Nam could be Tae Kyung's half-sibling?

Not when I have to stop myself from slamming a fist onto the table everytime Tae Kyung goes, "Why do I feel this way?", or "Why do I get angry/worried/startled because of Go Mi Nam?", or "What is Go Mi Nam to me?", or "Why did I do this?"

I was so tired after translating ep 11, but I still went on to watch ep 12 with the hope that something good would perk me up. But no! After the climax at the end of ep 11, Tae Kyung still failed to recognise his feelings and just disregarded what he did on impulse (I like how his eyes widened when he suddenly realised that he was kissing Mi Nam in ep 11. So, it's instinctive!!). In He Yi's words, he's an idiot who doesn't even know his own feelings!

But, the thing is, I can't be bothered even if Tae Kyung turns out to be her half-brother (which is highly unlikely). Because:

Shin Woo hyung?

- Un..Noona asked me to come.
- I'm sorry. I was just trying this out with Coordi. I'll go change now.

I should have known!!! YAPPARI!

Our Taekyung isn't that weak!!! Though he does care for Minam, it's not a deep love yet, and it's not like him to give in.

OMG I so love the screenwriters. Many were complaining about the kiss (see cap below) last ep, and though I saw it as Taekyung's sacrifice for Minam, I was sorely pained too.

But just 1 min into ep 7 and redemption descended!!!

HAHA! This is going into my big list of 'You're Beautiful turn-around cliches'.

It's faked!! An angle problem!! And I guess this once again depicted just about how much we should get heated up or excited over what appears in tabloids, even those backed by photos. And the funny thing is, everyone's mind kind of affected by typical drama plots such that no one really stopped to think "Hey but we didn't see their lips touch!". We just filled in the gaps with what we expected things to be. The human brain works in amazing ways. Either that or we're just too poisoned by drama plots.

Ok, I'm gonna go continue the ep before sleeping! Oh gosh, I've gotta wake up in 6 hours time!! =S

At matsuzy's suggestion, I bought the Hong Gil Dong dvd. I didn't really pay any interest in it when it aired on cabletv because I don't particularly like Korean period dramas (Dae Jang Geum anyone?). Besides, at that time, I didn't know JGS was in it - insert the prior reason for not paying attention to the commercials. When I got to know that, I still didn't have the motivation to watch for he wasn't the lead.
But aniwaes, I decided to give it a try and found it reasonably worthed the watch. Although the ending (in terms of coupling) was predictable, I still enjoyed the process. Ignoring the ridiculous modern elements woven into the period drama, the way too much Gil Dong - Yi Nok scenes that I sometimes just skipped through, it could be said to be engaging. At certain points where it starts to feel slightly draggy, the plot would develop in another direction to keep me interested.
Aniwaes, this is a spam post for me to fangirl over my JGS who acted as the prince Chang Hwe.
Many disliked the ending, but I quite liked it...there wasn't clear evidence pointing to the death of Gil Dong and Yi Nok, so perhaps they had managed to survive and left for China. Or maybe Chang Hwe had given secret orders to save them and send them away after the aristocrats are satisfied with the staged confrontation. There is evidence that Chang Hwe didn't turn all bad though. The young boy and Gil Dong's master's conversation pointed to the fact that social classes didn't stop anyone from doing things, at least for education, which we know is the gate to many possibilities. The point about not being able to attend school due to poverty is something to be dealt with of course, but back in those days, ridding barriers from social classes is a big deal already. I was so worried my poor Chang Hwe would turn bad after struggling so long to do the right thing within the constraints forced by his position. PHEW! I don't agree with Gil Dong though. He's too idealistic. Like what Chang Hwe said, there has to be a compromise, a step by step plan to achieve their ideal world. Gil Dong wanted a change to big, too fast...I don't see what's the point of dying for your dream. Will that help to move towards the dream? Wouldn't it be better if he had stayed to guide the new king towards that dream? Isn't that more practical? I guess the screenwriters just wanted a dramatic ending, though I have to say that that final battle scene was amazing, from picture composition to the dialogue, to the music.
Here's the pic spam of my pretty boy! He's like Lee Jun Ki, but he doesn't evoke the 'omg girl!' feeling in me...pretty as he is, he still shows masculinity. Lee Jun Ki's features are really sharp, and really pretty...Some people said his acting was lacking, and he only showed a blank face without any inner emotions for most of the drama. Well, I have no issue with that....in fact I felt that he carried his character well with this sad/depressed aura throughout. *shrugs* But I'm no expert. I found HJL's Jihoo good too. X)

Have you seen such a pretty face? (yes of course hehe, but...)

Just to illustrate why I like this drama so much, other than the pretty boys and girl,

What do you think preceded this scene?

I tried coming out with a few, like these:
He was sick, she looked after him and her feelings got the better of her.
She tripped and fell onto him and decided to enjoy the moment before he wakes up.
They were drugged (LOL, extreme imagination) and some tabloid put them in this position for photos.
They got drunk and just landed up like that
Somehow, from the last ep to this one, their feelings developed urber fast and they decided to get together.

What else?

Can't think of any?

Here's the answer

What is this you ask?

Well due to some reason, Mi-Nam (the girl acting as a guy) is sharing a room with Tae-Kyung (the leader of the group). Worried for her safety, her manager gave her the electric taser in case Tae-Kyung attempted to do something to her. I did suspect that Tae-Kyung might be the poor accidental victim, but no, I was wrong.

Mi-Nam touched it accidentally, and got knocked out, hence the above scene.

See how amazing the script is? I love how the screenwriters take typical cliches and give it such a twist, or sometimes a pun. Makes the plot more interesting and filled with surprises! Like, of all the ways to get the two leads into each others' arms!!! This!

There's been an interesting publicity method employed here. The tv station set up a public blog for the female lead in the drama, where she blogs every now and then in the capacity of her onscreen character, Chen Xin Yi. It's quite innovative and adds a dimension to the story, making it more real. =) I like it!

I've been asked to watch this by a foreign friend of mine who went to TW for some volunteer work. I didn't because I'm not fan of any of the artistes in the drama and in spite of the raves and record-breaking viewership ratings, I didn't give much attention to this drama.

I took these pictures from the dorama's official site.

Notice anything odd about the pictures?

No?

.

Well, the female's taller than the male.

Although the two didn't get paired up in the dorama, it still looks odd just based on these pictures, ne? I'm not anti-'tall girl + short guy' but maybe it's the cultural influences I've grown accustomed to, I feel strange looking at such a pair.

I myself am quite tall. Not soaring tall, but standing at 1.71m, I am tall for my country. So I've always hesitated wearing heels. It's not just the problem of backaches high heels can potentially bring, but also because I don't want to look too tall. =/ Then on the other hand, it's a fact that heels makes one look better and can lengthen one's legs.

I used to have nothing against my height but recently, while on a shopping frenzy, my height bothered me a bit.

I was looking for some dresses (long, to the ankles type) after being influenced by an actress's dressing style in Hachimitsu To Clover (see post below). However, no matter how hard I looked, the longest dress I found were up to my knees. Those that were supposed to be knee-length (and quite pretty) turned out to be too short for me.

And then there was an incident at Valerie at Hereen where I tried on a knee-length dress. Because the mirror was outside the fitting room, I had to exit the room to look at myself in the mirror. There was a couple outside paying for their purchases and after I re-entered the room, I heard someone commenting that the dress was too short for me. I even heard someone (not sure if it was the same person) saying that they were saying it too loudly. F. Mind your own business. In the end, I pretended I couldn't hear anything.

See? The problem of being of being too tall. I can't even find a dress I like!

As if that wasn't enough, my mom had to remind me of my height, saying that if I grew any taller, I'll have problems finding a bf. =.= (Oh yeah, this is the reason why I posted the two pics up there in the first place) So, what do you guys think?

Tall girl + shorter guy = ????

My family has been asking me if I have a bf ever since I entered Uni. It's sooo frustrating! Argh. X.X I have better things to do yo!

Ok, lastly,

YAMADA TAKAYUKI is HOT!

=P I just had to say that!
(although he's short)

Of course, ARASHI is HOT TOO!
