100 days, 100 minutes of Park Yong Ha

7 Oct 2010 was the 100th day of PYH's passing, and while I couldn't participate in the 100th day memorial event organised by Summer Face Japan, his official fanclub in Japan (容夏 is his Korean name in hanja, and it literally means "Face Summer"), I wanted to post this up. Work got the better of me, so I'm a bit late. (In fact, I started building up the post since 24 Sep!)
But here you go, (almost) 100 minutes of PYH footage - 99min 54sec to be exact, I didn't made it that way, I just posted up all the videos I wanted to share, counted, and got pleasantly surprised that the timing came so close to the 100 min target I set.
Mainly focused on his 09-10 LOVE concert tour, meaning his newer songs.
I've posted some of his older videos before here. Check if interested!
White Christmas
夏のカケラ
Is that Yong Ha trying to act sexy when he took off his sunglasses? He came off more cute than sexy.
微笑みをあげよう
Yong Ha's too cute at 3:14. I need a gif of this. He's too cute.
初めて出逢った日のように
This is one of Yong Ha's older, and more well known song.
[EDIT] I read this blog and it mentioned that Jacky Cheung did a Chi version of this piece. I like PYH's better, listen and decide for yourself here.
キラキラ
As you can probably hear from the song, this is a birthday congratulatory song. Thank you for being born in this world. During the short 32 years you gradually grew into who you were, bringing smiles to us fans, and of course to your fellow showbiz people who all seemed to be quite close to you.
Just feel
This song is quite unique because of the use of falsetto throughout the chorus, which give it a rather edgy, futuristic sound.
愛という地図
A positive looking love song. But I included it here because at around 2:15, he said "효신아 고맙다", "Thanks, Hyo Shin" (in the most casual, close speech form). Thanking friends on stage. That's human for you.
He had participated in Park Hyo Shin's PV for the song "After Love" in 2009. You can watch part 1/with subs and 2/with at YT. It's a quite touching story, especially with my fertile imagination, as I swop the two males in the story. I doesn't help that Yong Ha and Hyo Shin's voices bear similarities. Do listen to the song (it only starts in part 2) because it has a nice melody.
TOMORROW
I so love his pronounciation of "強く" near 1:00. His Korean-fied Japanese never fails to bring me a smile.
It's kind of sad that in this song, there's a phrase that goes "明日がある また明日が来る 明日の夢がある"/"There's tomorrow, tomorrow will come again, there're dreams of tomorrow"... And there was a comment on the YT video saying that he has no tomorrow. I wonder if it was meant maliciously...because some other people were saying how he should have thought for the people who loved and cared for him when he went down that route...But...seriously, much as I feel sad for the loss, I don't blame him and feel that he did the wrong thing. Well, that doesn't mean that he did the right thing, of course. There's no right or wrong. He doesn't owe us anything; it's his life so it's up to him how to want to lead it, or to end it. Perhaps the only people who can blame him are his parents, and family. But more than getting upset over what he did, I'd be more pained by the thoughts of how he must have suffered before he decided to end it that way. I don't agree with anyone who say that he was too weak. Would you call a kid who's learning to ride a bike weak, if he fell down tens of times as he tried repeatedly to ride, but still eventually failed to succeed? No. How can you assume that PYH didn't try?
JOY
Look at his arms. I love his arms. I love the shape, how it's well-defined but not too over.
Nobody Knows
I like this song, but I liked the MC part after this song even more. At around 4:12, he said, "僕は歌よりMCがもっとプレッシャーですよ"/"MCing giives me more pressure than singing does." So he was saying he'll rely a bit on the messageboards. LOL. Very cute to see him try to converse with fans in a foreign language. Really, it's absolutely cute. You have to watch this clip! Like how one fan shouted out at one point, "KAWAII~"
12月の空
A very soothing song, one that you can listen into your sleep. Beautiful lyric accompany the soothing melody, and of course carried by Yong Ha's soft voice.
Holiday
"普通に会ってるせいで 気づけなかった 会えないと淋しい"/"Because we were meeting as usual, I didn't realise. Once we're unable to meet, it gets lonely."
君が最高!
I really like this song because of the memories I have of it during the concert. Prior to the start of the song, Yong Ha taught all of us how to do the hand guestures for the chorus of this song. We were all quite hopeless at it (even Yong Ha got a bit confused at some times), but after a few rounds of (laugh-out-loud) practice, the actual song started and we just had fun. The thing is, at that time, I haven't been his fan for long, so I haven't heard of that song before. Yet, it was so fun that I fell for the song immediately.
Ready Go Lady Go
Very catchy ne. And I enjoyed watching Yong Ha trying so hard to convey his thoughts in Japanese. There was a part, near 7:45, where he tripped over his words, leading to the following:
空気の意味は
あの、僕たちは何処にいても
お互いに感じられるって意味です
The meaning of atmosphere is
Well, no matter where we are
We'll be able to feel each other
I can.
Friend
I love this song on the album, but the live performance, complete with the visuals....is just so bittersweet. Listen to his voice. Listen to the built-up of the song to the painful lyrics.
期別
I remember this song, because I was overwhelmed by the sound of everyone singing together in one voice. The concerts I've been to (Leehom's) seldom have such components, and I don't blame him, because Singaporeans are just so unresponsive at concerts. But at Yong Ha's concert, I heard and felt the love. I'm sure he did too, because at around 2:40, you can see his eyes getting wet. This is a very beautiful song. Below is another concert version where he sings more. You can actually hear the difference in his voice as he matures.
Promise
I previously blogged about this song ne. A very catchy song, the lyric sounds sad, but at the end of it there's hope, that we'll meet again in dreams.
Distance
Another of his fun songs. The chorus is really addictive.
Sayounara, Park Yong Ha.
His fanclub is still taking in members. Somehow, for now, more than an Arashi fc membership, I want to join PYH's.

I was so shocked when I'd learnt of his passing when it happened (read it on a J news site).
Even though I am not a K fan, I could appreciate the loss to his fans and family.
I am sure PYH's fans did something very special to honour his 100th day anniversary.
