Even after they enter into hiatus, Arashi is the "Five Musketeers". I hope the day will come when they become one again.

Arashi entered into hiatus on 31 Dec last year. A Daily Sports reporter who used to be in-charge of Johnnys' news looked back at the past 21 years.

"One for all, all for one" This quote from the Three Musketeers symbolises Arashi's past 21 years.

In 2002, Aiba Masaki suffered from pneumothorax. The following week, Arashi had to head to Hawaii for a fan event. Due to the nature of the illness, it was impossible for him to take the airplane. However, Aiba had a tube inserted into his chest in order to adjust the air pressure, and made a forced trip to Hawaii. Holding back the pain, Aiba said with a smile, "I can't make everyone worry." His feelings towards his friends and the fans, as well as his professionalism, could be seen. Arashi was like the "Five Musketeers".

In 2021, Ohno Satoshi entered into a break and Arashi will not be seen for a while. A group which is close to the people and which insists on being ordinary. To this reporter who felt lonely, a Johnny's artiste said, "It's ok. Arashi will always be in everyone's hearts." There is a group called Arashi, and what they conveyed to us will not disappear.

At the opening of the show, Aiba said, "Everyone from Arashi, are you watching? There are 3 hours so please come over if you have time. You can make it in time!"

When asked about how he spent 1st Jan, he said, "After the New Year's Eve, the 5 of us had  a drink. On the 1st, we exchanged mails and Sho-chan sent a cool mail saying 'Tokyo Tower is in Arashi colours!'."

He continued, "Before the show started, Sho-chan sent a mail saying, 'I am in front of the TV watching!'." Following that, he repeatedly several times his invitation for the members to come if they are free.

-------------

VS Damashi started on a good note and I had fun watching it, though at the same time I missed Arashi's presence on the familiar set with the familiar "voice from the skies". I'm glad that they didn't make it like a taboo to mentioned Arashi/members' names openly....and the baton touch from Nino's Ninomiyan's house that aired right before VS Damashi was awesome! I feel healed....

Arashi is so well loved by even their senpais. Nakai-san is really sweet..

--------------------

Rough translation of the part where he mentioned Arashi on his radio show

Arashi announced last year, that they will take a break on (after) the 31st. Well...it's ok if they return within this week, right?

I mean, 1st, 2nd, 3rd Jan, they can rest for three days, and resume from the 4th.

I think it's ok that they change (the plan). But of course, I don't know what they themselves think.

Many things happened in 2020. For the past 1.5 - 2 years, they aimed for the "I will take a break for once" goal, but then maybe it's (become) like "Eh? I don't really need a break?" "But we've announced it, how can we not do it now?" "So let's go on hiatus on 31 Dec and take a break for 3 days before we resume."

I think that is perfectly fine.

Or even one month later.

Or within 2021.

Or 5 years later.

No one knows.

It's all ok.

With a change in environment, a change in thoughts, one's will may change too.

It's often said that it's uncool to lose, or that it's lame to change your feelings.

But there are some reasons for the change for sure.

They pile up and make you think "This is not it". They pile up again and make you think "That is better". Again, they pile up and you go "This also is not it".

Through that, a conclusion forms and the environment changes.

I think it's perfectly ok for that to happen.

The unofficial 6th member of Arashi <3

-------------------------

And also, Arashi.
Because I had Arashi, because I had friends
I was able to run on a pathless path.

Although it's farewell to 5-person Arashi for a while
Each of the 1-person Arashi from henceforth are still my friends.

You have really worked hard for a long time.
Thank you for including me in your important final concert tour.
I know how the audiences were laughing.
Why? Because I listened to it live at Tokyo Dome! The sound of laughter! Your laughters!

If you think about it, I participated in the FIRST CONCERT, and also performed in the final tour in the form of a footage.
Back then, I couldn't have imagined that such a future awaited

If I were to write more, I'll end up writing a book, and I'll start crying, so I shall stop here.

Thank you Arashi.
Let's continue to get along well from henceforth.

Vol 193

2020/12/31, Tokyo.

The weather has been good since morning so it feels good.

How have you been?

The concert day is finally here.

The first day and the last day (T/ N: of the concert). Which means it's a one-shot game.

We have done all the preparations to the extent possible.

We conveyed many things in advance and had everyone participate in them..

Thank you for helping out at a challenging (T/N: busy) time during year end!!

This is also our first time challenging this so we will only know how things turn out if we tried.

I hope we can enjoy it no much how things turn out, just like we always do.

Let's create Arashi's concert together

Although I pushed back posting for a day as I was going to write various things as a year end post..

I will stop here.

I want to convey it at the concert.

I'll just write this for now.

I hope everyone can carry with you all your various thoughts and enjoy the concert.

That's all.

At the end of 2020, together let's create the best memories that are unforgettable all our lives!!!!!

We will take off right from the first song so please look forward to it

Please make all necessary preparations for the New Year's Eve and standby as soon as possible!

See you later...

My eyes are hurting, my head is aching, I feel drained of all energy. I pulled an all-nighter last night and only took short naps in the day....I probably should go to bed.

But.

I need to let it all out, in order to start afresh tomorrow morning, in the new year. A year without Arashi. All the feelings are crushing me.

It's not like we'll not see the boys (yes, I will still use this term to refer to them even though they are already in their late 30s/already 40 years of age) anymore, perhaps with the exception of Ohno.

But the change is so huge,  I feel I need to pen down my thoughts before the page flips and another chapter opens up.

This is the long post that no one has to read. A post to mark a milestone in my story with Arashi.

The short

I was Jun baited into the fandom in 2005 and grew to love all 5 of them. In the past year, through their actions, they have shown us their professionalism, their thankful hearts, and most of all, their consideration of fans' feelings and experience of them.

The concert is evidencee of all that, and I keenly felt the love they had for fans..

I love them. I did, I do, and I will.

Summary:

>> FC tix holders can access a MEETS CHANCE page via the concert special site on the concert day, from 8am-5pm JST, to enter for this challenge.
>>During the concert, if the MEETS CHANCE button appears on your screen, press the button and you may get connected to the venue.
>>When you get connected, you will be projected onto monitor screens placed at the venue.
>>You can directly wave/appeal to Arashi, and they can also wave back to you. (There is no mention of audio, but I doubt audio is involved).
>>I think VPN is likely to be necessary.

My thoughts and the translation under the cut.

Translation of the article by Nikkan Sports here: https://www.nikkansports.com/entertainment/news/202012260001085.html?Page=1

My thoughts

This was a difficult article to translate, not just because of its length and word choices (sorry, not a native speaker), but also because it felt so heavy that I had to take myself away from anything Arashi-related at intervals. Nonetheless, this was worth my time reading and translating. I walked away with these thoughts:

優しい
心配しなくてもいい
They are so thoughtful
We don't have to worry about them

Also, with respect to one of Sho's responses in the interview - There was a period during their early years when Arashi too was worried about poor sales, so it's not that numbers are not important. But for a group like Arashi, where the numbers are kind of guaranteed, it's not so much of the numbers that they are concerned about, but the intangible legacy they leave behind. Reading this article made me once again appreciate all that they have been doing in the past year and the thoughts they carried with them as they approach the end of this shiny chapter in their life.

I'm really glad for this interview. The questions were well thought out and a good way to close the year. It felt so grounded in their beliefs and boosted my confidence that they will manage, and take us along with them, regardless of what the future holds.

I tried my best to translate, and hope my fellow Arashians feel the same pangs of emotions I did when I read their responses. If there are mistakes or typos, I apologise in advance (not a native speaker!)

Arashi's last Kouhaku appearance is in the first half of the show

Will the transmission be at the end of the first half or the start of the second half?

It is getting probable that for the 71th NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen on New Year's Eve (7:30pm JST), Arashi, which has appeared on the show for 12 years consecutively, will for the first time perform in the first half of the show.

This being their last stage before hiatus, they will be the highlight of the first half instead of the usual second half of the show.

We hear from various insiders that Arashi will make their appearance during the first half of the show with a special medley. The Kouhaku show has always ended its first half by 8:55pm JST and started the second half from 9:00pm JST onwards.

----------

The concert starts at 8pm JST, so perhaps they will do Kouhaku before the concert starts? It'll be hard to time it precisely as the last act of the first half and coordinate with the Kouhaku side.

Highlights for me:

1) Jun holding the Ohno mini uchiwa. I only got the group one; now I feel like getting the solos too!
2) Arashi teasing about "with an arrow" versus "at an arrow". Nihongo is difficult huhu
3) Jun looking shy when the other members said they want to see him do a furikko pose!
4) Nino passive aggressively teasing fans for our silly requests, and putting the blame ON US.
5) The guys genuinely looked like they were having fun going through the requests.
6) How the character of each members in the minds of fans can be seen from the types of requests made.

My personal favourites:

- Ohno teasing "Kazuya" (I remember it was Nino's complaints in the early years when they were still rookies)
- My-pace Ohno!
- Arashi teasing us about difficult choices when deciding the frame to use...tsk!
- JUNTOSHI moment continuing frm the last episode where Ohno voluntarily helped Jun with the board, and now Jun helped Ohno with the santa hat!
- Best teamwork with Ohno starting the ep but Jun taking over the heavier explanations.
- Jun having fun creating an Aiba icon!

And also, the fact that they know what goes through our minds when we watch cons...like in this vid, knowing that we feel excited when we are on the way to the con venue, and see people carrying Arashi con goods.

This isn't the first time they have made comments that reflected how they know our feelings and thoughts so well..

They really put themselves into our shoes to think from our perspectives.

Only Arashi can make me cry at one moment, and laugh the next. This ep reminded me of their team dynamics & individual personalities that make me love Arashi so dearly.

P.S. The frame is free to use for all; does it mean non-FC ticket holders can use it?

Ok, enough of me rambling again...translation behind the cut!

I cried when Nino said, "It's entertainment (showbiz) to surpass each other."

And more when he continued, "We're lucky to be even considered as the benchmark."

And then laughed when he said, "But there won't be any though."

As the newscaster said, that is so Nino.

But he is right. There won't ever be anyone who can surpass Arashi. And I don't mean sales etc.

It's the whole experience of learning with them, learning from them, and learning through them.

I love them so much.

Thank you Arashi for the beautiful memories.

Enough of my rambling. Translation under the cut.

This episode is so much love!
- Ohno being chastised by Matsumoto sensei!
- The way they decide via janken so naturally
- Arashi ganging up on Aiba hahahahah Aiba is so pure!
- Aiba as Satoshi!!!
- JUNTOSHI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And also, I can actually feel the time pressure on Arashi (in particular Jun) to prepare for the concert, because this time it's not just the setlist, the lighting, sounds, effects. There is also the digital aspect to consider and all the extra functions that they have introduced to make the experience fun for fans. They could have just done a streaming and fans would be happy still, but they are Arashi, so they must go the extra mile! They must challenge themselves!

The fact that the remaining episodes will be releasing probably on daily basis - they are really cutting it very close. I cannot imagine the stress the concert staff and Arashi are under now.

They must be counting down....and dreading the little time they have left, just as we are.  Thanks Nino for reminding us of that repeatedly in this video..

Translation of the final greetings at VS Arashi tonight, from this article: https://news.yahoo.co.jp/articles/c5b4582fb15b114dd6770c91bbf48179d855f9a6

Actually, it's ok that they lost tonight.

Because of this, one of Arashi's most precious quality shone.

Even if the situation is bad, even if it seems useless to try, never give up. See it through, do what's at hand. Enjoy yourself while you're at it! Cheer each other!

I remember when the program first started, and the joke that the program won't last.
I remember when the program moved from the Saturday afternoon slot to the golden time slot it now occupies.
I remember spending hours translating an ep because you guys kept speaking over each other.
I remember laughing at Aiba when he bumped into the transparent walls at Jungle Bingo (sorry!)

Now it has come to an end.

Thank you for all the joy and laughter in the past 13 years!
